The Robotics Club at St. Michael Academy launched in September 2019, focused on designing and building underwater remote operating vehicles (ROV). Team members gained skills in project management, teamwork, problem solving, innovation, construction techniques, and engineering discipline (i.e. “design, build, test”).
SMA’s 5-member team built and tested two underwater ROVs and also constructed an underwater obstacle course in preparation for the Seaperch* regional competition which was to be held at the University of Michigan in March 2020, before being cancelled due to Covid-19.
The team had also endeavored to construct a more advanced ROV for entry in the MATE** competition which was to be held in Alpena in May 2020, before also being cancelled due to Covid-19.
The SMA Robotics team was led by Mr. Mike Costa and Mr. John Tillotson.
