PETOSKEY – November 14, 2019 – St. Michael Academy (SMA), Northern Michigan’s only Classical Catholic high school, today announced that it will host the First Annual SMA – C.S. Lewis Festival High School Essay Contest and Awards Ceremony.
The Awards Ceremony will be held Thursday, November 21st at St. Michael Academy, 2225 Summit Park Drive, near the intersection of Mitchell and Division streets, just east of Petoskey. The event will begin with a reception at 6:30pm with the ceremony to follow at 7:00pm. The event is free and open to the public.
In this inaugural year of the Essay Contest, SMA students were asked to read and craft essays on C.S. Lewis’ masterpiece on education, The Abolition of Man. The contest winner and runner-up will be revealed at the ceremony, which will also feature those students presenting their respective essays. The winning essayist will earn a $400 scholarship, while the runner-up will earn a $100 scholarship. The other finalists will receive gift certificates from local vendors. SMA will receive a C.S. Lewis book set as a gift from the Festival.
Anne McDevitt, Executive Director of the C.S. Lewis Festival, stated, “We are excited to collaborate with St. Michael Academy on this essay contest. The mission of our festival is to encourage reading and writing about the classic works of C.S. Lewis. The SMA students have epitomized the spirit of our mission and we encourage the community to join us in celebrating their outstanding work.”

Lewis society in the country for the purpose of bringing his wisdom to a new generation of Christian leaders. We are so grateful for this partnership, and cannot wait to show-off our bright young scholars to the Little Traverse Bay region!”
