St. Michael Academy Provides Free, Open Access to Its Online Learning Initiative for the Remainder of the Academic Year

PETOSKEY – April 10, 2020 – St. Michael Academy (SMA), Northern Michigan’s only Classical Catholic high school, announced today that it will provide open access to its Online Learning Initiative for the remainder of the academic year.  The general public will be able to access all SMA classes at no cost.

All academic classes at SMA have continued as scheduled during the statewide shutdown, but are now taught online by SMA faculty.  Access to the online classes at SMA is available at two levels.

  • Samples of online classes at SMA will be posted regularly at These videos can be freely accessed by the general public.
  • Full access to any online class at SMA is available for the asking to any student currently in 6th through 12th Such access, also known as “auditing”, allows for full participation in a given class, including guidance from the instructor, without “for the record” grading or academic credit.

Please contact Dr. Brake at to gain full access to online classes at SMA.

“During these difficult times, we believe that students need consistency and purpose in learning.  We’re therefore offering our Classical Catholic curriculum, presented by our stellar faculty, as a free service for those who want more for their children than they’re currently receiving from the public schools,” stated SMA Headmaster Dr. Richard Brake.

“Now more than ever, we must embrace and teach our children to adopt an American ‘can-do’ spirit and to persevere through the many difficulties of the temporal world.  Young people will suffer from limitless idle time, too easily filled with mindless social media and video games.  Rather, they deserve sustained development of their intellect and critical thinking – which is what we deliver every day at SMA!”

Dr. Brake concluded, “When our world returns to normal, we look forward to resuming in-person meetings with prospective families at our school.  In the meantime, we pray for the health and safety of all of you and your families – and for a blessed Easter season!”

SMA is enrolling rising 7th through 12th grade students for the 2020-21 academic year.  Please contact Dr. Brake at for more information.  SMA offers tuition assistance to qualifying families.  No student is denied enrollment because of financial reasons.
